Anchors Aweigh!

With their work rooted in relationships and a practical approach to support, Anchored Ministries is a “Christ-centered nonprofit dedicated to meeting basic human needs with dignity and compassion.” It builds into the lives of hurting individuals and families, seeking to serve as a consistent and positive presence in their lives and restore hope and dignity by providing free, quality clothing and essential resources.

Mobile Clothing Closet

Practical Programs, Big Impact

Anchored Ministries operates several Mobile Clothing Closets, which are converted trailers that function as pop-up stores. The closets travel directly to those in need, eliminating transportation and cost barriers that could prevent or hinder access. Since this program began, closets have traveled to communities throughout Lancaster, Montgomery, Chester, and Berks counties.

Customers select what they need the most, offering them the dignity of choice. Staff and volunteers help them locate items, offer emotional and spiritual support, and strive to show Christ’s love in a tangible way. Anchored Ministries’ goal is “to create a welcoming, store-like environment where individuals and families can shop for free, without feeling any less valued or important.” Last year, Anchored Ministries distributed around 50,000 clothing items to thousands of individuals and families through this program.

Anchored Ministries also has an annual Christmas Program, which supports children and families who may otherwise go without holiday gifts, winter clothes, and essential resources. Each year, parents and guardians in need are invited to submit their children’s wish lists. Anchored Ministries partners with schools, businesses, and donors to purchase these items, and “the program culminates in a heartwarming event where parents and guardians receive their children’s presents, wrap them with the help of volunteers, shop for stocking stuffers, and enjoy a warm meal.” Last year, 154 families were supported by this program, with sponsors providing gifts for 450 children.

For one single mom, Anchored Ministries’ programs made all the difference. “After losing her home, vehicle, and financial stability, she reached a place where birthdays and Christmas became days she tried to quietly pass by. She didn’t tell her children it was their birthday or Christmas because she had nothing to give them, and the emotional weight of that still stays with her.

Two years later, when she was facing the same situation again, her child’s school connected her to Anchored Ministries. Within days of reaching out, she received clothing her children desperately needed and support through our Christmas Program. For the first time in years, her children experienced the joy of being seen and cared for during the holidays. Beyond immediate needs, she was also connected to additional resources and encouragement during a season marked by loss, including the recent passing of her mother.”

Together, these programs help to meet the immediate needs of our neighbors, bless them with a sense of community, and uplift them during tough times.

Partners with Hope

Driven by similar values, the CommunityAid Foundation is thrilled to be able to partner with Anchored Ministries and magnify their work in the community.

Last year, we were able to provide Anchored Ministries with a $7,000 10X Grant, aimed at expanding their capacity and long-term stability. This grant helped magnify impact through strengthening the foundation of programs they already offer.

We also provided Care Cards to supplement Anchored Ministries’ offerings. These $25 store vouchers are distributed to clients at their Mobile Clothing Closets. This provides additional flexibility for families in need.

Care Cards were also given to families during the Christmas program, helping to extend the impact past the holiday season. Recipients could use them to purchase warm clothing and coats to prepare for the bitter winter weather.

Executive Director Russ Williams shared, “[The Foundation’s] support allowed us to set staff capacity appropriately and stabilize program coordination, improve operational efficiency during Mobile Clothing Closet events, enhance the Christmas Program experience for families, and offer Care Cards to clients, giving them autonomy to meet immediate needs beyond clothing.”

Together, these support systems had a positive impact on both the recipients and on Anchored Ministries. “Since receiving CommunityAid Foundation support in mid-year 2025, Anchored Ministries has seen meaningful growth in efficiency, reach, and consistency,” Russ added. “We are deeply grateful for CommunityAid Foundation’s partnership and shared mission. We are honored to be part of CommunityAid’s story and look forward to continued partnership as we work together to meet basic human needs and strengthen families across our region.”

We are truly excited to see what 2026 will hold for them and the community they serve.
