Building a Brighter Future

The Thunderbolt Foundation is a community-based nonprofit that supports the goals of the Littletown Area School District by sponsoring initiatives that benefit students. They specifically work to uplift academic innovation, athletics, and student support programs.

Seeking to empower educators and enhance student learning, the Thunderbolt Foundation utilizes grants to help teachers to purchase cutting-edge equipment and provide valuable experiences. This enables teachers to develop and implement creative and unique educational strategies in their classrooms, growing both student interest and excellence.

The Thunderbolt Foundation also invests in athletic and cocurricular programs that enrich the student experience and deepen engagement in school life. In particular, the Foundation prioritizes initiatives that encourage students to serve others and give back to their community—extending the impact of these programs far beyond the classroom.

Through its work, the Foundation continues to raise awareness and respond to the needs of students who require additional support to thrive. As Executive Director Beth Becker explains, “The Thunderbolt Foundation believes that education is a fundamental human right and that every student deserves an equal opportunity to succeed.”

One specific approach the Thunderbolt Foundation has when meeting these additional needs is their Care Closet. The closet offers food, clothing, shoes, and hygiene products for those in need, which benefits both the students and their families.

Growing Together

The CommunityAid Foundation is blessed to partner with the Thunderbolt Foundation as they make a tangible difference for youth in need.

Since 2023, we have provided nearly $15,000 to the Thunderbolt Foundation through three grants. These grants helped purchase hygiene items for youth in need, install a story walk for Littlestown Area School District students and community residents, and purchase a hydroponic farm for the elementary school.

Fresh produce grown at the farm is distributed to students in need as well as the New Hope Ministries food pantry in Littlestown, and it has become an excellent teaching and social impact tool for those at the school.

We also provide Care Cards to help supplement their Care Closet. This helps support families throughout the district, enabling them to select items that meet their needs and taste.

Since our pilot year in 2022, the Thunderbolt Foundation has attended 10 LIFTS Workshops, including “Fundraising and Friendraising—Simple Things, Big Impact,” “Financial Accountability and Compliance,” and “Elevate Your Marketing.” These presentations provided practical ways to support their impact and grow their mission.

Finally, through our Donation Program, the Thunderbolt Foundation can exchange unwanted or unneeded items and clothing for unrestricted funds. These funds are used by the Thunderbolt Foundation  to support Ruth's Harvest Littlestown, which provides elementary students in the Littlestown School District with backpacks of food over the weekends.
