Nourishing Our Neighbors

Since 2018, York County Food Bank (YCFB) and the CommunityAid Foundation have been working together to support hungry individuals and families in York County.

“Food is a basic human right. We are working towards a stronger, more nourished York County, where no one worries where their next meal comes from. If you need help getting food or would like to help others in need of food, you’re in the right place.” These words from YCFB’s website capture the heart of their mission as they strive to end hunger and invite others to participate in the process.

YCFB provides millions of meals each year to families, seniors, and children, serving 40,000+ individuals each month and distributing over 4 million pounds of food each year. By working with over 100 feeding partners, they ensure access to nutritious food throughout the county.

YCFB offers multiple distribution options, making it an easy and dignifying experience. This includes the ability to schedule pickups, drive-thru and mobile bus distributions, and senior box deliveries. Their Online Pantry Program operates at various location throughout the county, some of which include Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) clinics.

They are also planning to open the Market @ Princess Street, which will revolutionize client-choice shopping and community-centered programming integration. The Market is scheduled to open during the winter this year.

 YCFB is doing incredible work for our neighbors in need in York County, and we’re so excited to partner with them and see their vision for the Market @ Princess Street come to life.

York County Food Bank’s Food Trucks

The CommunityAid Foundation has been able to support York County Food Bank through several of our programs, including our Grant Program, Care Cards, and LIFTS Workshops.

We provided $15,000 in grants last year, including $10,000 to support the Market @ Princess Street. This grant supported the purchasing of cooler storage units for this new, innovative location.

Our other grant helped YCFB purchase meat, produce, and dairy products, providing meals for around 2,500 individuals after federal funding cuts effectively slashed upwards of 25% of YCFB’s annual food capacity.

Since 2025, we’ve also provided $900 in Care Cards to help supplement YCFB’s offerings. These shopping vouchers provide the dignity of choice, allowing clients to select the items they need that meet their personal style.

“We recently distributed care cards to families with young children who were participating in our Online Pantry Program, through our partnership with WIC. The parents were grateful for the opportunity to receive food and clothing support. We are so grateful to Community Aid for providing these cards, so that in addition to fresh, healthy, nutritious food, we can help to provide access to clothing and basic household items.”

YCFB staff members have attended several LIFTS Workshops, including “Responding to Increasing Service Demands in a Time of Crisis with Eric Saunders,” “Elevate Your Marketing,” and “Effective Approaches to Grants with Dr. Ivy Buchan.” These provided deep dives into topics specifically related to their ongoing work and preparation.”
